In 2011 I was asked to arrange part of the OuUnPo Vision Forum Symposium in Athens, Greece, and was invited to present a paper on emblematic art and symbolism that would incorporate a presentation and discussion of some of my (then) recent artwork. At the time I was deeply mired in my PhD research and had not produced any new work for nearly 2 years, so I presented the work I had prepared for the 2009 Phoenix Rising conference, alongside a brief history of the use of symbolism in art.
