Inspired by fantastical creatures in medieval bestiaries and allegorical symbolic beasts and chimeras from alchemical manuscripts. For each piece, I thoroughly researched the manuscript and references and added elements of the accompanying text to evoke some of the spirit of its time. Each painting is created in ink and watercolour on handmade cotton paper, and mounted on a handpainted backing. Each comes with a handwritten note explaining the symbolism and providing information on the original source (because my time in academia means I can’t give up footnotes that easily!!! )
